Laura began working as a volunteer at Stevens Memorial Hospital in 1965.
In Mike's senior year, in 1964, he competed and won the State science fair and went on to win a 4th place medal at the 15th International Science Fair In Baltimore.
As a Civil Air Patrol Squadron member at Paine Field near Everett, he was selected to represent Washington State at Perrin Air Force Base flying T-33 jets as part of CAP's Jet Oriention Course in 1965. .
Laura and Mike first met in Mr. John Cooke's Biology classroom. Mike had graduated the year before, in 1964. John let Mike teach his class from time to time while Mike attended college. It was love at first sight
